| ROCHESTER,
N.Y. (February 2, 2010) – Teams that make it to the NFL Super Bowl
are often those best equipped to stop the run. The
Buddy System, manufactured in Rochester, is the best possible way to
stop running ice cream drips, while also preventing the transfer of germs
from the individuals handling your frozen confection. Robert C. Sotile,
president and CEO of Buddy Cone Systems, Inc., said he confirmed the sale
of the Buddies to Dade Paper Company, the concessionaire supervising sales
at Sun Life Stadium in Miami during the Super Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 7.
“We've always known the Buddy System was a super product,”
Mr. Sotile said. “Now, it's confirmed.”
Mr. Sotile said ice cream sales expectations for the Super Bowl and surrounding
events are 28,000 to 30,000 cones. The Buddy cone jackets were shipped
the week of Jan. 18.
The Buddy System took the field by storm in 1998 with the first major
improvement to the ice cream cone in nearly a century. Unlike paper jackets,
which are permeable and get soggy with dripping ice cream, the Buddies
provide a solid polystyrene shield that leaves each cone untouched by
workers, and germ-free. They also have a lip that serves as a reservoir
to keep drips off the consumers' hands. The result is the most pleasurable
ice cream eating experience possible, all at a cost of about three cents
per serving. The Buddy System is recyclable.
Laboratory tests have proven the Buddy System to be more effective than
paper sleeves or no sleeve in preventing germ transfer. The product was
2001 Ameristar Award winner for North America's Food Safety Product of
the Year, as named by the Institute of Packaging Professionals.
More than 320 million patented Buddy System cone-holders have been shipped
from the Rochester, N.Y. manufacturing plant to customers in 14 different
countries, and ships at sea, including the Royal
Caribbean Oasis of the Seas, the largest cruise ship in the world.
The Buddy System cones are manufactured in four different sizes and shapes
to accommodate almost every cone. More than 1,000 retail chains and “mom-and-pop”
stands serve their customers with the Buddy System, including such well-known
chains as Dairy Queen, Carvel, Stew Leonard's, Culver's Butter Burgers
and many prestigious landmarks where customer service is valued. The Buddy
System Cone Company, with offices in Brighton, N.Y., can be reached on
